Our story
Samajik Sip Bikash Udhyog (SSBU), Bouddha-6 Jorpati, Kathmandu is a GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified firm/small industry established on 28th August 2012 (2069/05/12) B.S. Although being registered as a small private industry/firm, it has been selling its products in the international markets and engaging in social contribution also. Various skill-based trainings are conducted in SSBU. Such contributions or supports are offered irrespective of the casts, races and religions of the targeted women and children. Thus, SSBU has a loose and referral network with the organization Foundation for the Solidarity and Development of Women/ The Women’s Foundation of Nepal (WFN). It is a remarkable support for the disadvantaged women in various areas of empowerment and social transformation.
SSBU employs over 80 women who are victims of abuse, violence or poverty. These women live at our shelter home or in the local community. SSBU is a social enterprise, which provides training, jobs and fair working conditions for impoverished Nepalese women. 60% of our profits go to the Women’s Foundation Nepal (WFN) allowing them to finance projects (shelters, legal assistance, trainings, micro-credits etc.) in a sustainable way. Half of the remaining profits are given to the women with the other half covering other expenses.
The cooperative exports to retail and wholesale customers, primarily based in Europe, Canada, Australia, Japan and the US. Visitors to Nepal can visit the production Centre in Kathmandu (Boudhanath) and purchase scarves and other gifts directly. Explore our wonderful products and become our business partner!
